Sainsbury’s Super Saturday was a family event that took place on Clapham Common in support of the London 2012 Paralympics Games. It was the first event of its kind from Sainsbury’s and a ground-breaking initiative to raise awareness of the Paralympics Games. It was filmed and broadcast live by Channel 4, the official broadcaster of the games. The event build was difficult as in the preceding weeks the park had been used for many other events. Unfortunately the wet weather had caused extensive damage and specialist ground contractors were employed to “fix” the grass. Due to local authority conditions, the overall site was very tight and the design and layout was challenging to include Sainsbury’s many sporting activity structures, music venues and the huge channel 4 broadcasting facilities area. It was a great success despite the wet and windy weather.
